The makeup of the Princeton Borough Council will most likely be determined by tomorrow’s primaries, when Princeton Democrats will be asked to choose two out of three candidates. No Republicans filed to run for the all-Democratic Council.
Incumbent Roger Martindell is up for re-election, and the other seat will be vacated by Council President Andrew Koontz, who will be running for Mercer County freeholder.
In his statement on the website of the Princeton Community Democratic Organization, Martindell points to his record of “conservative fiscal… and liberal social policies”.
Anne Waldron Neumann’s blog stresses winning increased revenues from Princeton University as the solution to lowering property taxes.
Jo Butler is also in favor of reevaluating the town-gown relationship. In her statement she cites her educational background (MBA) and expertise in high-level searches as pertinent to the tasks facing the next Borough Council.
On the Princeton Township Committee, Democratic incumbents Liz Lempert and Lance Liverman are running unopposed.
This is the first Princeton primary with a Tea Party factor. In the Republican primary contest for the 12th Congressional District, Princeton financial investor Scott Sipprelle faces off against real estate businessman David Corsi of Oceanport, who declares himself to be “Tea Party approved”. They are vying for the chance to unseat Representative Rush Holt in November.
Polls are open Tuesday June 8, 6am-8pm.
