Scorching temperatures on Tuesday are causing delays and some cancellations on the NJ Transit Northeast Corridor line. NJ Transit is reporting 20-30 minute delays due to heat-related problems such as expanding rails and drooping overhead power lines.
The National Weather Service's excessive heat warning is in effect until Wednesday 8pm.
As if the 100+ degree weather is not bad enough, humidity levels are forecast to increase over this period.
The Weather Service advisory cautions people to avoid spending much time outdoors during the day, stay in air conditioning where possible, and check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
