From 2:00-3:30 PM on Saturday, March 19, the exact anniversary of the start of the Iraq War, CFPA will have a Regional Rally in Palmer Square in Princeton. In the event of inclement weather, the Rally will instead take place in the Assembly Room (enter door on right rear) of Nassau Presbyterian Church, across Nassau Street from Palmer Square.
Confirmed speakers to date include:
· Jesse Hamilton, a fifth generation combat veteran who served as an Army Staff Sergeant in Iraq from 2005-2006
· Patrick G. Eddington, former CIA analyst and author of the just-published Long Strange Journey: An Intelligence Memoir, which will be on sale at the Rally
· The Rev. Muriel Burrows, Pastor of Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church in Princeton, who has had several relatives who have served in the US Armed Forces in Iraq
· Jeffrey Laurenti, Senior Fellow and Director of Foreign Policy Programs, Century Foundation
· Bill Deckhart, Southeastern PA Coordinator, Coalition for Peace Action
· Shaleen Leahey, songwriter and performer
· The Rev. Robert Moore, Executive Director, Coalition for Peace Action
The theme of the Rally is “Countdown to Withdrawal,” as the US is on track to honor its commitment under the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with Iraq to have almost all US troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011. The first benchmark of the SOFA Agreement, to have all US combat troops out of Iraq by August 2010, was met.
The Rally will also include a slogan/chant that calls for ending the Afghanistan War, as follows:
Back from Iraq
Now One More
Have to End the Afghan War
