Waves of Friendship: An Evening of Giving, Sharing, and Learning with Japan

A fundraising/cultural event for the Tohoku International School in Japan will take place at Riverside on June 10th, Friday, from 7-9 p.m.  This will be an evening filled with opportunities to learn about Japan and the recent earthquake/tsunami.  The event opens with a lecture for children and parents on the Japanese experiences of earthquake and tsunami, storytelling of an old tale from Japan about a man who saved a village from tsunami, a shakuhachi (traditional Japanese bamboo flute) performance, and Japanese songs performed by Riverside students. 

There will also be hands-on exhibits of traditional Japanese toys and games,children's books on earthquake and tsunami,  calligraphy, bake sale by the Do Something Club, fun food tasting, and more!   Essays by the students of the Tohoku International School about their earthquake experiences will be on exhibit, too.  Bring your family and friends to join us for an evening of giving, sharing, and learning!
