Peer pressure pushes some Princeton teens to drink and get drunk

This Wednesday, one day before the Princeton High School Prom, students will get a close look at what can happen in a fatal DWI accident.  Police, emergency services, and a funeral home will stage a dramatic reenactment of a DWI crash right on Walnut Street, between the Middle and High Schools.

Phil Barnett '79, minority staff director for the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce, will present a public talk at the Woodrow Wilson School titled, "The Politics of Climate Legislation: Failed Attempts and the Prospect for Future Legislation," on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 4:30 p.m. The discussion is part of the School's "Energy and Environment" thematic lecture series.

Health officials say good personal hygiene is the best prevention.

Students who kicked off weekend celebrations last night at Princeton University thought twice about the quantity of alcohol they consumed after rumors that the health center was quickly overcrowding with norovirus patients spread rapidly throughout campus.
 
Emails circulated by students warned that the University’s McCosh Health Center would not be accepting intoxicated students due to the number of virus-infected patients pushing the infirmary to full-capacity.

West Windsor, NJ: New Jersey contractors are invited to register for the EPA Model Renovator Certification training. Mercer County Community College is offering the Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RPP) Program and NJ DCA Rules and Regulations at a one-day class on March 13 at the college’s West Windsor campus, at 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Course content includes NJ DCA rules and regulations, lead based paint health concerns, planning the job, lead dust containment, cleaning, training, non-certified renovation workers, hands-on training, and recordkeeping.

Shearer’s investigation led him to the conclusion that taxpayers in more than 100 American cities are being affected by the shortsighted and environmentally damaging Army Corps of Engineers projects. Following the film, Judith Robinson of Princeton Farmers’ Market and Tracy Carluccio, deputy director of the Delaware Riverkeeper, will lead a discussion of the Corps’ proposal to dredge the Delaware River. 1 hour, 35 minutes

In 1923, Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian scientist, philosopher & social innovator, predicted that in 80 to 100 years honeybees would collapse. Now, beekeepers around the United States and around the world are reporting an incredible loss of honeybees, a phenomenon deemed “Colony Collapse Disorder.” This “pandemic” is indicated by bees disappearing in mass numbers from their hives with no clear single explanation. The queen is there, honey is there, but the bees are gone.

Shortly after 3pm this afternoon, a car crashed into the exit doors at McCaffrey's supermarket in the Princeton Shopping Center.

The Princeton Township Police Department reports that the driver,  David Isaacs of Hillsborough, had to be extricated from the car by the Rescue Squad.  He was taken to the Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

More patient privacy, bigger ER and ORs, and a huge lobby distinguish the new hospital building

The new University Medical Center of Princeton currently expects to open on May 22, 2012 with some significant changes in patient care, including an enlarged emergency department with individual rooms; medical services re-organized around a “portals of care” concept; de-centralized nursing stations; and a more environmentally friendly design in its new Plainsboro location.

Princeton author outlines world view

Having been a student of philosophy way back when, I was drawn to the title of G. John Ikenberry’s newly published book Liberal Leviathan: The Origins, Crisis, and Transformation of the American World Order, with its echo of the great 17th century English philosopher Thomas Hobbes.  So I was among the fifty or so local residents who turned up to hear Ikenberry discuss his prescription for the future at Labyrinth Books on Wednesday, April 13.
