In association with the Princeton Alcohol and Drug Alliance and Princeton Family Dinner Week, Princeton Public Library is hosting a potluck family dinner Monday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m.
 
Participants are invited to bring their family and a baked good (bread or dessert) in a portion to serve eight to 10 people. All other menu items will be provided. Please register from the online events calendar at princetonlibrary.org.

This ensemble, featuring some of the top players in the nationally renowned and award-winning Princeton High School Studio Band, will kick off a new series titled Crescendo : Musicians on the Rise, which will showcase New Jersey musicians under 25.  The Studio Band recently returned from Hawaii, where it was the only high school ensemble to perform at  ceremonies marking the 70th anniversary of the invation of Pearl Harbor.

The Rider University Art Gallery will present the first in its series of Gallery Concerts featuring faculty members from Westminster Conservatory, the community music school of Rider University’s Westminster College of the Arts.  Danielle Sinclair, soprano; Denise Mihalik, mezzo-soprano and Kathy Shanklin, piano, will perform a wide variety of traditional and contemporary Christmas songs arranged for two voices, including Gloria Laudamus te, There is no Rose, In Dulci Jubilo and Deck the Halls.

Exciting photographic images by local photographers Deborah Land and Jeff Currie will be exhibited at ART WAY GALLERY in Plainsboro, New Jersey. “SEEN & UNSEEN” expresses the artists’ spiritual journeys and explores innovative techniques of fine art photography. Art Way Gallery is located at Princeton Alliance Church, Schalks Crossing Road at Wyndhurst Rd, Plainsboro, NJ 08536. The show runs from December 18 – January 21. Reception for the artists will be held Friday, January 6, 2012 from 5pm – 8pm with a snow date of Friday, January 13. Gallery Hours: M-F 9-9, Sat 3-8, Sun 8:30-1.

This was the sentiment Saturday morning among some of those attending Princeton Future’s meeting on plans to build a mid-rise residential community at the site of the old University Medical Center at Princeton on Witherspoon Street.

Olen Kalkus, founding headmaster of Princeton Academy of the Sacred Heart, will present the lecture, "Gender and Learning," on November 17th at 7pm at the Lawrence branch of the Mercer County Library System. Mr. Kalkus will share research on gender differences in brain development in children and how it relates to education.

After a long and arduous process – after three unsuccessful attempts – Princeton residents on Tuesday voted to reshape the future of their towns, put aside Borough and Township differences, and become a single municipality.
 
Sixty percent of the Borough voted for consolidation, along with more than 85% of the Township.
 
The decision now sets into motion a process that could take years to complete, of merging two governments, two police forces, and two tax bases.

The Rider University Chorale, conducted by Sun Min Lee, will open its 2011-2012 season with a concert entitled “Make Our Garden Grow” as part of Rider’s Family Weekend.  The concert will take place on Saturday, November 5 at 2 p.m. in Gill Memorial Chapel, which is located on the Rider University campus in Lawrenceville, N.J.

This documentary tells the story of four Filipino women who reluctantly leave their families and schools to teach in Baltimore in the hope of lifting their families out of poverty. But the women also bring idealistic visions of the teacher’s craft and of life in America, which soon collide with Baltimore’s tough realities.

Princeton voters face some unique choices on the ballot this November.  Most notably, whether to consolidate the Borough and Township.  Other big decisions Princetonians must make this year include: choosing a new Borough mayor to replace Mildred Trotman, who retires after more than 25 years in public service;  and voting for the first time in the 16th New Jersey Legislative District, to which Princeton has been moved after last April’s statewide redistricting.
