In a town hall meeting with Princeton Township Mayor Chad Goerner and Princeton Borough Council member Kevin Wilkes, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie congratulated the two Princetons on the recent vote in favor of consolidation.

“We have to start not just talking about challenging the status quo, but actually challenging it,” Christie said, calling the Princetons an example for the rest of the state.

 If you judge a public school by its SAT scores, Princeton High School ranked highest in the state last year.  Does that mean Princeton has the best teachers?

A Task Force report unveiled last month by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie recommends making student test performance an important criterion in teacher evaluation. While that would reflect well on Princeton teachers, it runs counter to the approach adopted by Princeton Regional Schools. Princeton Charter School, on the other hand, has expressed measured support for Christie’s reforms.

With unemployment in the state of New Jersey hovering just above 9 percent, jobless community members are challenging state legislators to address their concerns. Residents gathered at the Princeton Public Library for a town hall meeting on Tuesday evening, February 15, which allowed struggling residents the opportunity to listen to legislators explain what New Jersey was doing to help them.

Katie DeVito, founder and president of NJ Unemployed, organized the forum to empower jobless locals and give them up-to-date information about the most recent employment legislation.

Andrew Ross Sorkin, chief mergers and acquisitions reporter and columnist for The New York Times, and Gary Gensler, Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, will discuss "Banks, Shadow Banks, and the New Face of Wall Street" at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, November 22, in Bowl 016, Robertson Hall.

They will be joined by former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, the John L. Weinberg/Goldman Sachs & Co. Visiting Professor at the Woodrow Wilson School. The discussion is the fifth in the School's Financial Market Regulation series.

Princeton voters have agreed to a 3.9% tax hike to support next year's $71 million school budget.  The budget passed by more than 2-to-1, a significant margin, given that more than half of NJ municipalities rejected their school budgets yesterday.
