Princeton University will be closing Faculty Road between Alexander Road and Washington Road as well as Lawrence Drive and West Drive from 11 o'clock PM Saturday March 17 through  11 o'clock PM Sunday March 18, 2012.
There will be barricades placed at Alexander and Faculty, Washington and Faculty, Alexander and Lawrence Dr. and Alexander and West Dr.   Princeton University Department of Public Safety will be on site at the barricades throughout the closure.

NJ DOT unveils details of pilot program to test road closures

Emotions ran high at the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s (DOT) public meeting to discuss their pilot project to test jughandle closures at Harrison and Washington Streets to relieve traffic congestion on Route 1. Around eighty Princeton residents showed up to voice their concerns that the proposed rerouting of traffic would increase congestion on Princeton streets.

Route 206 (State Road) Resurfacing Work to Begin This Week,
Expected to Take 2 Weeks
 
The New Jersey Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin resurfacing (milling and repaving) Route 206 on this week, weather permitting.  The project limits extend from Hillside Avenue in Princeton Township to Bridgepoint Road in Montgomery Township.

Beginning on Monday, October 24, 2011 a tree maintenance project will take place along Rt. 206 between Ewing St and Herrontown Rd in Princeton Township. This work is being conducted as a maintenance issue in response to problems that were encountered during and after the heavy rains that were experienced in late August.

At last night’s Borough Council meeting, Anne Waldron Neumann of the public citizens’ group Save the Dinky described Councilwomen Jenny Crumiller and Jo Butler as “heroines” for their stance against Princeton University’s plans to move the Dinky station.  That didn’t prevent the rest of the Borough Council from voting “Yes” on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) drawn up earlier this week between the Township, Borough, and University

At Tuesday evening’s mayoral debate between Democratic candidate Yina Moore and Republican candidate Jill Jachera, the two women answered questions on pressing local issues like consolidation, movement of the Dinky, Hurricane Irene, and town relationships with Princeton University.

With regards to the University’s development of the Arts and Transit Neighborhood, which would require moving the Dinky terminus, Moore stated that she did not think moving the Dinky “is the right thing to do.

American Water Company working in area. Vandeventer closed from Nassau to Park Place.
On Wednesday September 21, 2011, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, American Water Company will be installing five water services in the area of 12 Vandeventer Ave.  Vandeventer Avenue will be closed from Nassau Street to Park Place.
There will be two off-duty officers working overtime and there will be detour signs in place.  Expect some delays.

NJ TRANSIT is working to restore most rail service tomorrow, August 30, in the wake of residual impacts from Hurricane Irene.  Bus and light rail service will operate on a regular weekday schedule.  Crews continue to work around the clock to make necessary repairs and reconstruct areas of the railroad damaged by the storm.  As NJ TRANSIT works toward restoring the system to normal operation, customers are advised of possible delays and cancellations due to remaining storm damage.

New road markings aim to improve bicycle safety on Princeton streets

Princetonians should be on the lookout for Sharrows -- a catchy name for shared lane markings, soon to be painted on Princeton streets. An image of a bicyclist with two directional chevrons, “sharrows” remind drivers to share the road with bicyclists.

Final paving scheduled the evening of Wednesday August 10th and Thursday August 11th.  Additional work will be performed with daytime lane closures.  Final paving will be performed during evenings with work hours of 7PM through 7AM.   During final paving work the road will be fully closed and the full detour will be put into effect, to be reopened  to traffic each  morning at 7AM.

On July 22, 2011, NJDOT announced that construction will begin next week on a project to widen and improve the Harrison Street intersection with Route 1 in West Windsor.

A new daytime FreeB bus service begins today on a trial basis.  The shuttle route links Princeton Shopping with Palmer Square, with stops at Princeton Community Village, the Library and Community Park Pool, the Senior Center on Harrison, and the Suzanne Paterson Building.

Downed branches and power lines snarl local traffic

(3:40pm update:  Mercer Street and Quaker Road are open.  Most of 206 still closed.  Be prepared for aggravated rush-hour delays.)

Several major roads were still closed as of 9 o'clock this morning, after last night's strong winds brought down trees and power lines around Princeton.

The Princeton Township Police Department is urging drivers to respect the Detour signs, orange cones, and road closure tapes that have gone up overnight, as PSE&G crews struggle to restore service in various parts of town.

Transit officials support move of Dinky station.  (Video of the meeting at the bottom of this article.)

New Jersey Transit (NJT) had a chance to weigh in on the Dinky controversy at last night’s Borough Council meeting.  But when NJT representative Thomas Clark ventured the opinion that Princeton University’s proposed Arts and Transit neighborhood would help Dinky ridership, not hurt it, he was met with boos and hisses from the audience.

Profile and video interview with Yina Moore, Democratic mayoral candidate in the June 7th primary

Yina Moore’s family has been in Princeton for several generations spanning three centuries.  Her grandfather was twelve years old when he was sent from Loudon County, Virginia to make a life in New Jersey.  That was 1890.

Moore offers the story as one reason why she believes she is the best qualified of the two candidates running for the Democratic Party nomination for Borough mayor.  Primary voters go to the polls Tuesday, June 7th, facing a choice between Moore and David Goldfarb, the long-time Borough Councilman.

 Charlton Street will be closed at Nassau Street during this time.

Construction on Alexander will affect traffic.  Contract awarded to widen Harrison.

Expect traffic delays on Alexander Road beginning tomorrow, as construction will narrow the “S-curve” to a single lane of alternating traffic between Canal Road and Canal Pointe Boulevard - part of an improvement project that will probably go through the end of June.  

West Windsor Township engineer Francis Guzik says they will try to work off rush hours, and have agreed to re-open both lanes of traffic from May 26-31, in order to accomodate the thousands of visitors who are expected for Princeton University’s reunions and graduation.
