An exhibition of works by artist Vittorio Sciolli, a painter, printmaker and sculptor whose work focuses on the human figure, will open with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, May 18, at 171 Broadmead St. The exhibition is sponsored by the Princeton University League.

West Windsor, NJ: Rutgers University Art Professor Judith Brodsky will discuss the contemporary art world at Mercer County Community College on Tuesday, April 17, at noon in the Communications Building, Room 110. The talk, entitled, “My Life in Art,” is the fourth in the college's Spring 2012 Distinguished Lecture Series, and will be held at the college’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Professor Brodsky is an artist, printmaker and arts advocate. In her talk, she will draw from her own experience as an artist as well as from her projects as a curator and activist.

West Windsor, NJ: Yevgeniy Fiks, professor of visual arts at Mercer County Community College (MCCC), will discuss some of his recent art projects as they relate to Soviet and Post-Soviet history in a talk “Soviet and Post-Soviet Art,”on Thursday, April 5, at noon in the Communications Building, Room 109, at MCCC’s West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. The talk is the third in the college's Spring 2012 Distinguished Lecture Series.

"Bodies of Rights & Medicines" will be the topic of a panel discussion at the Wilson School at 4:30 p.m. in Bowl 001, on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. The discussion is being held in conjunction with an exhibition on the "judicialization of health" featured in the Bernstein Gallery in the lower level of Robertson Hall. Combining photography and life stories, Danish artist Torben Eskerod and Princeton anthropologist João Biehl document how a growing number of patients across Brazil are suing the government to obtain medicines in the name of their constitutional right to health.

Three new paintings by acclaimed artist Mel Leipzig, professor of art and art history at Mercer County Community College, will be unveiled at a special event on Wednesday, March 14.

The college and Leipzig are co-hosting the free event at the Conference Center at Mercer from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to help raise funds for a student art gallery planned at the Trenton campus on North Broad Street. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and the opportunity to meet the artist.

This workshop is held annually in memory of Princeton artist Betty Ruth Curtis.  Participants can express their love for friends and family by creating homemade Valentines. Two workshops are available. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required. Registration is $10 for non-members and $7 for ACP members.

Rezoning Ordinance is formally introduced for public discussion

Princeton Borough residents are one step closer to walking down a rejuvenated Alexander Road in twenty years, after the Borough Council agreed to formally introduce for public discussion the zoning for the Arts, Education and Transit Neighborhood at a meeting on Tuesday night.

In the newly-published book, Spark: How Creativity Works by Julie Burstein, Joyce Carol Oates, the prolific Princeton author, reveals aspects of the impulse that keeps her writing, often for 12 hours a day when working on a first draft, as well as the thinking and dreaming in which she immerses herself when preparing a novel.  “It’s an intense and ineffable experience which is difficult to talk about,” says Oates, who doesn’t begin to write until she has “the whole thing in my head like a movie.”

February 25, 2011—NUMINA GALLERY, Princeton High School presents ”Artist–Teacher Show”, an exhibition showcasing for the first time, twenty-two local artists who teach in Princeton and the surrounding area. Artists come from the Arts Council of Princeton, Grounds for Sculpture, Princeton High School, Stuart Country Day School, and Princeton Day School. Some artists also teach independently in the community. Media includes painting, sculpture, photography, prints, stained glass, and mixed media.
